My 3 year old watches a movie everyday at his preschool. Usually 45 min. I'm concerned about this. Is it too much?

I planned to send my two year old to this school. Now I'm not sure. 45 min TV everyday for a two year old? What do you think?

(sigh)

there's nothing wrong with that. Their toddlers. As long as that's not all they're doing, there's no harm. My smart daughter watched a movie at her daycare when she was that age and it didn't make an iota of difference. Save your worry for other things.

Honestly at that age I find it unacceptable. But, what exactly is the show?

I find it odd, but probably nothing wrong with it. Unless they come home every day and watch for hours more....

i let my kids watch TV. I pay my childcare providers to interact with my kids, not to put them in front of the TV. It would not be acceptable to me.

I would never allow that, our children did not watch television at home and I would never pay someone for them To watch television.

I'm afraid I disagree. I don't really find it odd or unacceptable at all. Remember the adage "everything in moderation". As long as other things rounds out a kid's day, then there is absolutely nothing wrong with 45 minutes of television. FWIW, 45 minutes falls within the AAP guidelines.

As for paying childcare providers, if they are watching the movie in an intimate group setting with the children, there is nothing wrong with that either. You don't have to be rolling all over the floor to interact with children. In a group setting, there should be lots of freeplay, some educational, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with a little class movie.

If there is activity going on during the movie (movie on in background) id think thats fine. Not if everyone is silent and teachers use it as a quiet time outside of already designated naps. 45 mins is a long time for a half day or full day child care for young kids. Feeds, naps, diaper changes plus state required two outside play times a day - where is the actual indoor play time or learning enrichment?

The school should give you a lesson plan. Read it and see if they follow. If they dont change schools thats a red flag.

Read three year old as two year old. I still feel the same way

In a high quality child care you'd be amazed at the stuff they do with the kids

I teach preschool, and I can tell you that is absolutely unacceptable.

Also, licensing regulations require that lesson plans be posted in every classroom for you to see. So, you can check them. If they are not, bring it to the Director's attention.
