Impressive Austin. And it only sounds like it will get MUCH better in the near future.

Few years back, I did to a casting call for "The Alamo." They pretty much called back everyone for a job as extras -- either Mexican or Texican soldiers, depending on how you looked... I decided not to do it when I looked at the shooting schedule (they were shooting in the middle of the night), but a friend of mine did and had a blast. So yes, I'd say it's pretty easy to go to one of these casting calls for extras... not much money, though.

Money's not great but the free food on location is usually pretty good!

I had to listen to the news clip over again: "new studios will bring 20-BILLION into the local economy". That is incredible!

I had a friend who did this, along with his wife, at least 6 or 7 times. It is more of an entertainment thing (I think he got ~$50/day for the high paying stints), but he had a lot of fun. He was irked when he got blocked out of the scene in 'Courage Under Fire', but his wife was sitting a couple chairs down from Meg Ryan and made the final cut .

yes, I have been to one for a student movie just to say I did it once. It was very fun and interesting even though I didn't get picked for the part. My husband and his friend were so hilarious and 'out there' that the crew had to make up new roles for them. The roles were nothing major, but they were so impressive that they actually made the cut.

I would actually recommend anyone to try if you are not camerashy. Be, however, responsible if you happened to get picked. Don't let them hanging!
