I got forwarded this site today and I think it is a HILARIOUS and great concept. It's in beta still.

You actually are allowed to RATE your neighbors...rotten or rad

Locate, Rate, and Share Good and Bad Neighbors Before and After You Move

I love the idea, but I can bet this could get really ugly with comments going back and forth, libel suits, etc.!!!

I heard about that last week while watching the local Austin news station.

You're absolutely right AustinGuy, that is a lawsuit waiting to happen!

I checked it out from your link Gigi, and already I saw some of the complaints, complete with satelite photos of the properties! Ouch!

Yep, with the "N" word right there on the home page. Sites like this should be ignored. No value whatsoever.

Ouch, I didn't even think of that. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. I just moved in part because I didn't like the way my neighbors were keeping up the neighborhood. I sure wouldn't want to announce that, and I figured new buyers can drive through and have their own opinions. Our buyer ended up being someone who purposely did not want an HOA, so they loved our place.

In some cases yes, but if people take the time to actually praise their neighbors, then it could actually help the sales process. Kind of like getting positive feedback on Ebay. I'm much more likely to buy something from someone with tons of + feedback on Ebay. If you were researching a neighborhood and came to this site and found nothing but green markers throughout the neighborhod, it could be impactful. Not decisive, but impactful.

IMO,for others to say a site like this should be "ignored" and has no value is kind of missing the point. The site is in beta. Obviously, it has some issues with how to moderate comments and prevent really malicious or even racist posts, but it is enabling people to gather information in a way that driving around a neighborhood never will. I think it will be most useful to spot neighborhood trends than to rule one house in or out of your purchasing process based on the comments of one individual neighbor v. another. If they can tweak it to not be a hate mongering site and model the concept more of Ebay's feedback forum, I think it could be a very cool tool down the road.
