Hi All,

As is, I work during the weekend from the afternoon to midnight, so I am unable to attend any Oktoberfest festivals on the weekend. Since it's my first Oktoberfest in Austin, are there places in town where I can get a nice stein of German beer on my off days of TUE or WED? Also, any suggestions of places which are good to see, even during the week? If so, that'd be groovy!

Thanks!

Wurstfest (in New Braunfels) is usually the last week in Oct. &/or the first week in Nov. (goes over 2 weekends)

It's a must do. Thursday is College night. The weekends are always packed. IMO, Sun - Wed. is the BEST time to go. (unless you're young & attend college night)

Do a search in the Austin Forum, the San Antonio Forum and the Texas Forum. Lots of Wurstfest Tips on these boards, but not sure where they are.

We have Oktoberfest in Austin?! Wurstfest in NB, yes, but here?

October is ACL month and then Halloween/F1. Maybe something minor, it has never registered with me.

Well, seeing how this is my first Oktoberfest in Austin, I wouldn't have any way to know that; Hence why I asked originally.

But, ACL and Halloween are fun events, so if Oktoberfest is more of a non-starter in Austin, I'll check out NB!

Thanks, Hound! I'll research it more.

You'll find plenty of bars that do "Oktoberfest" events. Beer and sausage, some german music, etc.

But as a huge festival, yeah, it never really got started in Austin. New Braunfels is so close and is actually German, so just head there.

Thanks, Novacek! I reckon I'll dust off my saddle and get the wagon loaded and get the horses rested, then head down I-35 until I get to NB!

Joking, but in all seriousness, I think it'd be neat to see an Oktoberfest in a German-type city, such as NB. I'm thinking I'll head down there for the festivities! And I'll also keep an eye out around town for any bar happenings in Austin! :-)

I didn't mean to come across snarky if you took it that way. I'm of german descent and I love festivals. Wurstfest is NB is a LOT of fun. I was just honestly surprised to hear "Austin" and "Oktoberfest" in the same sentence!

Sorry man, I took it in the wrong way! It's all good!

I'm also part German (my mom is from "PA Dutch Country" in the Lancaster area), so I too enjoy the nice festivities around this time of year! I guess you made a good point, Austin probably isn't known for being a big Oktoberfest destination, so it'd be odd to hear people asking about it. But, I think Wurstfest would be a fun time! I suppose there are WURST things to do! (Ok, lame joke).

But thanks again for the replies!
