The problems with campgrounds is that you have a tiny patch of land with a neighbor on every side of you with their little patch of land. Are there any places to (legally) camp around Austin where you feel like you're in the middle of nowhere? It would be nice to have cell service for emergencies, but not a necessity.

Camp during the summer, you'll be alone :-)

All joking aside, most camp areas you'll be neighbors. The are nice camp grounds in Georgetown. And further out.

Unfortunately, I'm one of those that likes camping in winter like everyone else. 😉

What are some of the nice ones in Georgetown called? I don't mind a drive.

Most people don't camp in the winter either.

There is:
  • Russell Park
  • Jim Hogg
  • Berry Springs

Colorado Bend Park is really nice but that is further out.

You can look these up online and see maps of the parks and facilities, they are all in the Austin area.

McKinney Falls State Park

Pedernales State Park - has primitive camping areas you can hike into.

Arkansas Bend Park - there are oak tree shaded primitive camping areas out on the point south of the park, which is away from the drive up camping spots.
