It's unfortunate, but you have a lot of people in this world who think they already know everything and can't be taught anything new. Bill O'Reilly comes to mind.

If memory serves me correctly, Austin once had a much larger Black population but it has only been declining over the years. Dallas and Houston are seeing all of their minority groups grow and thrive. I think that says a lot.

Also, I believe that average income of Hispanics in Texas is lower than that of Blacks, and their rate of college enrollment is also lower, so the claim that Austin is too expensive for Blacks doesn't hold any weight.

It sounds like some of you just don't want to admit that your city may have a race problem. Indeed, even endorphin chasing, tree hugging "progressives" can be bigoted jackasses.
Austin is not largely white, no single demographic has a majority in this city and whites have been on the decline on a percentage basis for decades. What it really sounds like to me is some people like to hate on our city whenever the opportunity arises. Especially those who are obsessed with knocking at "jackass tree hugging progressives" as you called them.

African Americans in this city are up in arms about the gentrification of East Austin and the increasing lack of affordability in areas that have historically been the center of Austin's black community. That is the problem. Gentrification.

I don't have access to the details of this report. But the first time I heard this claim several years ago, when I looked into it, the "percentage" of African Americans living in Austin had decreased, due to its exponential growth, but the actual number of African Americans in the population had increased as well. I'd be curious to see what the actual "numbers" are today as compared to the past.

You should stop posting and exposing your ignorance. Both the city of Austin and the metropolitan area are less than 50% white (non Hispanic) and that percentage has dropped rapidly over the past 20 years.

What diversions? State or federal?

On the state level, the gas tax goes to roads. It used to also go to policing those roads, but now that's covered from the general budget (so a diversion from schools, etc. to that maintenance function). There have also been billion dollar lump sum diversions to the roads from the rainy day fund.

On the federal level, the gas tax hasn't covered the highway portion for years, and highways have gotten billions of dollars of diversions from the general budget.

Austin is a city with a culture that is too top-heavy with Anglocentric ideals. Houston and Dallas are not. That should be the main point you take from my posts.
Then you should be just as happy as we are that you don't live here.

This thread should be closed, as things have changed since this thread was written. The population of AA's in Austin is now increasing, reversing a trend.
