Hi All:

There may be an opportunity to relocate to Georgetown from Temple. I need to know:
1. What are the best elementary and middle schools? Also, rec.s for private schools?
2. Please suggest a great realtor that has many years experience and will show us what we ask for.
3. What are some great neighborhoods? Home price 250,000-350,000 range. My fave so far is River Chase but that's not for another 10 years... Would like a lot around 1/2 acre to max 2 acres. Don't mind fixer upper. Would prefer an older home in older more established neighborhood. Trees, access to trails, etc.

Please let me know what you can come up with! Thanks.

For schools I would first start with the Texas Education Agency's ratings. They are the most objective. Niche, Great Schools, etc. are often skewed as there are incentives to talk up one's schools in a public manner when one has the investment to protect (home values). The TEA ratings for the most likely school districts that serve Georgetown (or are within striking distance to Georgetown) can be found at:

Georgetown ISD TEA Ratings

Liberty Hill ISD TEA Ratings

Round Rock ISD TEA Ratings

Leander ISD TEA Ratings

When you click on the above rating links you can drill down to the individual schools to determine which ones might be good fits for your particular foci. You do that by clicking on the name(s) of the schools you are interested in looking at.

Because I am a Realtor I am prohibited from steering you towards one school or another.

As for neighborhoods, it really depends on the things that interest you most in a neighborhood. If it is lot size and older home for character that is going to push you away from most of the planned subdivisions. I often find it is best to figure out the schools first and then focus on what is available in and around the attendance zones for the schools you are interested in.

Based on what you've said so far, if you don't mind older, and you want established neighborhoods, there are homes that are convenient to the trails around Lake Georgetown (Goodwater Trail) or to San Gabriel Park where the trails start that might work for you. Serenada is one subdivision that might work for you, with larger lots, but there are several others. Size of home and other mundane details will make it a lot easier for those of us who work Georgetown to point you in the right direction.

As for schools, yes, Realtors are not allowed to steer you towards one school over another. Plus, we don't know your kid(s). As a mother, I learned that a school (public or private) that is awesome for one kid can be a disaster for another, even in the same family, so how could anyone on the internet tell you which would be a good one for your child? Ratings are a place to start, but you'll want to look at the whys of the ratings as well as the fact of them.

As for Realtors, any recommendations you get will likely be via DM since making such recommendations on thread is against the City Data TOS.

Larger lots/established neighborhood makes me think of Serenada right off the bat.

North Lake is another possibility.

Great, I will do some more research on the schools. What type of residents live in Serenada? Many kids, retirees, etc.? It looks like those are the types of homes and lots we will be looking for. How big is the neighborhood? North Lake (Georgetown)? What is the easiest way to look up those homes? I've also read good things about River Ridge and another neighborhood with gorgeous views. Thanks y'all for your input.

austinhomesearch.com would be the most reliable way (it belongs to the Austin MLS so is most accurate), until you get an agent to set up a search for you that's more specific.

The folks I know that live in Serenada span a wide range from young families to retirees, all on the same street.

House rentals will show up on austinhomesearch.com, too, because most house rentals are on the MLS.
