I'm sure I'm not the only person who has a home with unused bedrooms. How can I go about volunteering my home as a temporary shelter to a family or two that have had to leave their home due to this flooding?

I have no idea if there is anyone that I can contact to help coordinate this.

Maybe the Red Cross? You might have to go through a bit of basic training with them, though.

This just came across on the NextDoor site:

The City of Austin has established austintexas.gov/help as an information hub for residents impacted by the floods, wishing to donate, or to volunteer. Information will be posted as it is available.

Monitor local media and public safety social media for more information tonight.

Public safety responders are evacuating some neighborhoods located near William Cannon and I-35, in the Onion Creek community.

Residents of South Austin and Onion Creek area are urged to go to the Dittmar Recreation Center, located at 1009 W Dittmar Rd, Austin, TX 78745.

More rain forecast overnight. Any residents who feel uncomfortable or unsafe this evening should plan ahead and will be welcomed at Dittmar.
