Honest question—why do you have to always insert yourselves into these conversations? I don't feel the need to go into your Round Rock, Georgetown, Four Points, et cetera, threads and derail the conversation with arguments about why central living is better.

Let's try to get back on topic.
Waaaaaaaaaah.

So roughly a quarter of Austin meets his criteria (at the neighborhood level, obviously some in those neighborhoods won't, but many properties in neighborhoods just below that will).

Basically anything in the central core enclosed by Mopac/183/35/71 at least merits a look(plus east Austin). That's "vast regions".
the schools are generally not very good in those areas.

The morado cv one I pointed out was pretty good, but the shopping is the arboretum and strip malls.

The schools are actually good.

walkscore is 61

At the same time I don't want to live in a far off area where I have to spend 20 minutes just getting to the HEB (though often many of these "remote" areas are spectacularly beautiful). But I freely admit that not everyone shares my views and I'm fine with that.
Yeah I specifically want to live someplace with a low walkscore

I dont want random people walking into my neighborhood as that generally increases crime.

710 Colorado tracks to:

Mathews Elementary - rated 9
O. Henry Middle School - rated 8
Austin High School - rated 7

All of these schools are on the good side, according to great schools.org.

Which areas? The central core?

Rosedale? Brentwood?

Schools like Bryker Woods, O Henry, McCallum?

Its pointless to suggest anything to the OP, who is being very difficult and closed minded to any suggestions. I just read his other thread and had to laugh at his desire to not be around any homeless people.

Thats like me jumping in the NYC forum to ask around for a: SFH 1-story country style home with wrap-around porch, BBQ pit, and backyard big enough to play horseshoes. BTW, top notch schools and very low crime are a must.

I guess "good" isnt specific enough.

To compare, statewide

Laurel mountain is 30, forest trail is 46 and mathews is 480
canyon vista is 30, hill country is 18, o henry is 428 (lower test scores)
westlake high is 30, westwood is 100, austin high is 359

Anyway some of the north downtown condos are possibly a good fit. with the schools probably being the least important criteria since they dont have kids so maybe you are right, they are good enough.

Top 500 puts it in approximately the top 5 percent of elementary schools in Texas (there are 8000).

Yes, good is relative, but that seems pretty good.
