Does anyone have a suggestion for a nice restaurant for Valentine's Day dinner? I know this is semi-last minute, but with everything else going on here (just moved in a month ago), it actually slipped my mind. Not to limit our choices too much, but I'd like to make reservations at some place right in Austin rather than any surrounding towns. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I love Wink. A totally out of the way place next to a dry cleaner, but fantastic food if you like California cuisine. It's right at 11th and Lamar.

I would also suggest Truluck's or 3 Forks if you want steak/seafood. I use the website chow.com Austin board for great restaurant ideas.

Personally, we never go out to eat on the actual V Day because we find the food quality to be really poor and prices to be very high....but good luck!!!

Default Thanks!

Thanks a lot for the restaurant recommendations, Gigi. I will definitely check them out and, hopefully, I'm not too late to get reservations.

Does anyone have any more suggestions? I'd love to hear about any good restaurants (not just Valentine's Day ones), so I can have a long list of places to eat at for the next few months. Thanks again!

Oh, I forgot a few others. Eddie V's for seafood. Sampaio on Burnet for Brazilian food (but it's not a Brazilian steakhouse). Vespaio for northern Italian (down on S. Congress). Zoot is also really good (owned by the owners of Wink). Malaga on 3rd street for Spanish tapas.

I've also heard rave reviews about 3 Forks and Austin Land & Cattle for red meat.

In NW Austin I like Siena and Maudie's. Hudson's On the Bend is also up here toward Lakeway, but super expensive.

In the Domain, Jasper's has great food and a nice atmosphere. I haven't eaten at North but they had a North in Phoenix and it was very good. Daily Grill also just opened up there recently and it has gotten some good press.

Happy eating!

Mesa Ranch is a nice, intimate place.

I will say that a lot of the more popular places for Valentines Day move you in and out like cattle. It turned me and the wife off after a couple of years of being rushed as quickly through dinner as possible to make room for the next couple, that we have started doing our dinner on the day before!

We're going out on Saturday. Valentine's day menus are overpriced, hurried and not too exciting....plus the alarm goes off too early the next day.

I always love The Melting Pot (Fondue). They have 2 locations now. 1 183/Anderson Mill area and 1 downtown!

Fogo de Chao ( I think I spelled it right) downtown if you are hungry for a Brazilian steak house - ate at the one in Dallas last week - it was great but haven't been to the one in Austin yet.

I hear Roys is really good, ate at their restaurant in Kauai last month and it was so good it's on my list of restaurants to check out here to see if it can compare (go with the butterfish)

I ate at Hudson's on the Bend last month, very interesting menu items and flavors. If you are into a place that is different and want to drop some coin that is something to check out but personally it wasn't our type of place.

We're more Saltgrass Steakhouse people than anything. I like a relaxed atmosphere with good food and decent prices.

I ate at the Cool River Cafe tucked away on Parmer in N Austin last week and it was good. I noticed they were advertising a V-day special and I bet may still have some availability.
