I’m a 26 year old recent graduate from the SF bay area. I’m starting a job in tech sales at a company located in NW Austin.

I’m looking for suggestions for apartment complexes to look into or stay away from in the North West Austin area.

My budget is ~$800-$1100 for rent for a 1 bedroom apartment. The most important thing for me is a short work commute; I’d like to be within 5 miles of 78727.

Everyone here seems to immediately suggest finding a locator. However, I’m a little skeptical that they would steer me to properties that pay the most commission vs. what may be the best value/fit for me.

Can I negotiate better lease terms if I approach apartment management on my own, since they do not have to pay commission to a locator?

Balcones Club Apartments 78750
Little amenities, but the price is right!

The rent is the same whether you use a Locator or not. There are a lot of older 80's built apartments in the 183 corridor. Another one that consistently has good prices is The Barrington at Park Place on Mopac and Duval.

Apartments - either the tenants love them or hate 'em.

Quite a few newer large apartment complexes just north of 78727 in the Lakeline/Parmer/620/45 area. Some big ones are just being finished at Parmer & Anderson Mill Road if you want brand new and closer.

Several are maybe 10 or more years old, some brand new, others under construction. You will be paying the top end of your budget. Plus at rush hours the traffic on Parmer is very heavy, but with a short commute it would be tolerable.

Most folks here seem to recommend using an apartment locator, as there is no charge.
