I am moving to Austin in the next year from Charleston SC. No i did not love it there for cultural reasons. Here are my needs: I have 3 kids 9, 7 and 1.

Love the Montessori style education system.

I would like a Live / W[alk] Neighborhood:Sidewalks,Grocery Stores,Parks/ Outdoor Recreation,Restaurants, Movies, Theatres, Arts & Culture,Public Transportation,Library etc. Would spend up to $650k but i want about 2800 sq ft downtown {yikes}. Don't care if its a home or condo. Hopeless at DIY so its got to be newish. Which neighborhoods are best i hear so many thrown around i need a good place to springboard my search. HELP!!!

Look in the Travis Heights neighborhood in South Austin. It is within walking distance to S. Congress Ave. and is a very eclectic neighborhood with a great vibe.

Travis Heights sounds like a great place that would meet your needs. As far as the schools go, it was a transition neighborhood a few years ago and has not yet fully caught up on the schools. Most people that live there are young professionals. I would also look into Westlake Hills and Rollingwood. It's not far from Travis Heights, a little more kid friendly, great schools, but close to everything. You may have to compromise on a few things. This is Texas and we love our cars. Our first public transportation rail system is in the works and should be up and running in the next year or so but it will have limited service geographically.
