I took the kids to Fredericksburg too.... Yeah, there is not a lot to "do" but we shopped around, had lunch, and then stopped at the LBJ Ranch on the way home - which was pretty cool.

Cameron Zoo in Waco is very nice and does make for a long afternoon outing.
I've been there many times. Once you get off the exit just follow the "follow me to the zoo" hippo signs

You could also do the Georgetown thing...Innerspace Caverns, lunch and shopping on the square, or a picnic at the park on the San Gabriel.

If you went to Fredricksburg, it's definitely worth the trip to Enchanted Rock while you're there. Guarenteed to wear your kids out (and maybe the inlaws too) .

Why don't you consider a cruise on Lady Bird Lake (formerly Town Lake) and then some great BBQ afterwards. Lonestar Riverboat offers daily cruises.

^^ I was thinking Inner Space caverns too, or maybe even Natural Bridge down by San Antonio. I don't remember much like that in RI. Too bad they can't enjoy the great mexican food here. Did you already take them to the Oasis? Being outside by the lake in a 70 deg day in Feb is pretty neat.

I know how it can be with relatives on the East Coast... they just don't care for anything that isn't on the East Coast, and find TX especially distasteful sometimes. Oh well. Some people understand the West is the best, others don't.

They might find the Bob Bullock State History museum interesting. You can catch a show at the IMAX theater there too. There is MOMA and the Blanton (for them, the kids might enjoy), although I don't know if you want to try and compete with the northeast in the museum area.

I was talkin to my good friend Joe Eddy about this and he had the best plan of them all.

Pre-pack an overnight bag before they come. After yall have lunch, tell them that you and your husband need to run down to the store to get a pack of cigarettes. Get in the car and give it the gun. Give them a call after 30 minutes so they don't get to worrying. Tell them everything is all right and that the best vacation for them is the chance to have some one on one time with their grandchildren. Tell them you will be back Sunday night after sundown.

Proceed to San Antonio, splurge on a hotel right down on the Riverwalk and drink margaritas until you do something you will regret later.

LMAO!! I would LOVE to do that. I actually asked my husband if he was planning on asking them to watch the kids one night so that we could go out (keep in mind, they are staying until FRIDAY), and he goes, "Well, I'm hoping they will offer, but I don't know..."

They haven't seen the kids since June. We're out here with no family and 3 kids. Both my inlaws are in their early to mid-50s, so not ailing or disabled.

Sigh.
