I bought a new construction and closed in Dec 2015. The appraisal amount is fine but the year built is showing as 2014 rather than 2015. I guess it doesn't matter too much until I go to sell the house. Is that something worth changing now and risk the appraisal amount go up or wait until I have to sell and then get them to change the year built.

Was it started in 2014? We're the first owners of a new construction we purchased in the fall of 2011. Year built shows 2009, which is the same as the neighbor house built at the same time (but sold more quickly), and I always assumed the 2009 date was when they started taxing somebody for the improvements. Never occurred to me that it would be beneficial to change it.

I thought it was generally based on when the COO(Certificate of Occupancy) was obtained which would be closer to end of construction rather than start of build. Not too sure about this though.

We are still in construction and ours shows 2014.

I'm guessing that's because the plans were approved toward the end of 2014 and permit to move forward issued in December 2014?
