Also have no clue where you got that link from. I go to kxan to look at the news and that's what popped up. I copied the link and pasted. So not sure what you're referring too. I work in Austin I don't need to live there to see the issue.

On your link. Scroll to the bottom.

Austin has homeless. Yes. Are they a particular problem? Not any more so than at least a half dozen other things. Sorry they offend your sensibilities.

I noticed this years ago when we arrived here how many there where- and how uncomfortable of a vibe it was walking downtown at times.

This is not true.

You accused the homeless of doing the "solid majority" of sexual and non-sexual assaults, which simply isn't true.

You don't live in Austin. If the homeless offend your delicate sensibilities so much, only leave your car to get to and from your workplace in Austin. Or better yet, find employment in your far flung suburb and you'll never be offended by Austin's homeless "problem" ever again.

A somewhat relevant article on putting restrictions on homeless people. It might save the city a lot of money (spent on lawyers) by NOT trying to run them off...

Yeah, there are a lot of municipalities attempting to put ordinances into place that target the homeless and those who try to care for them. I've been watching this one unfold, and now the Department of Justice is investigating. Department of Justice Investigating Anti-Homeless Laws in Broward? | New Times Broward-Palm Beach

It's interesting that our own city is considering outlawing standing on medians and curbs, although the official party line is it isn't targeting panhandlers. Police consider banning pedestrians on curbs and medians | KXAN.com

About a week or two ago on 590 (Gotta love local talk radio) they were talking about the homeless hanging around UT and specifically the Drag worms. A former homeless person called in and he pretty much reaffirmed that the majority of the Drag worms are not locals. Believe it or not, the Drag is considered a main hub for train hoppers. Austin is recognized as a national draw because of their relaxed, almost welcoming stance on the "homeless". I use this term loosely because I think the majority of us would agree this is a catch-all word used to describe everyone from those caught by misfortune to those that choose this lifestyle. Typically though, it's the latter that are seen as a nuisance.

How come solicitation at intersections is so popular and there seems to be nothing against it unlike a lot other places?

With all the recent fatalities, that one probably can be made to pass muster (compelling state interest and all).

Right, but it would also apply to anyone else looking for funds, advertising events, soliciting for businesses etc. So no more UT spirit groups fundraising on the side of the road and on medians, Austin firefighters passing the boot, religious groups selling raffle tickets, church kids advertising car washes, Girl Scouts selling cookies, people advertising businesses with sandwich boards etc. etc.

Those activities should take place at the front of grocery stores, and other businesses instead. If they are a legitimate "fundraiser", then HEB, Randall's etc. should have no objection to it.
