Here's one of em they had to keep replacing until they put up construction notices that made the sign pointless:

There used to be two more by the bridge down Applegate but I think they got sick of replacing them.

The Mopac route would only be 5 miles longer, while the SH130 would be an extra 15 miles. If I-35 becomes worse, drivers (including through-traffic) will choose Mopac. Nature abhors a vacuum.

When was this? That intersection wasn't annexed by the city before 2008, so if it was before then perhaps there were jurisdictional issues.

Uh, no.

The 130 route is only 11.4 miles longer than straight on 35.

Diverting to Mopac, and measuring a perfect straight line between I35/45 and mopac/45 (it would actually curve a bit) is 51.67 miles. OR 6.87 miles longer.

Nope this was post annex, the ones in the west side of the neighborhood we expected but the two by the bridges get regularly ripped out by the trucks that are construction trucks that like to use the bridge as a shortcut. At least that is the running theory during the last meeting I attended.

Quite often in other states, the "the" you noticed is quite common and doesn't sound strange at all. With so many newcomers here, I'm hearing this terminology frequently. Before long, a large number of us will be doing it.

Possible, but I can't get the 'the' out of my mouth - it is like a tongue-twister if I try! And it will always be Town Lake to me .

It's still rare enough to be noticeable, and everyone that I know where they are from that uses it hails from California. I've never noticed it in other states when traveling there, either, though I'm told it is commonly used somewhere on the East Coast (just not the states on the East Coast that I've traveled in).

My niece lived in San Diego for 20 years, and just moved to Texas. She does the "the" thing with all freeways/interstates. I've gotten used to it, finally.
