How can over loaded work trucks, in ill condition with under pressure tires possibly be acceptable on major highways like I-35 and Mopac??? I was just behind one loaded with old radiators and the tires were in desperate need of air, and the guy is traveling about 65. This is so unsafe!

They are constantly stopping and checking trucks and the consequences are not insignificant; however, just like speeders, you can't stop it all.

And in Texas trucking, that's a lot! I once, in my callow youth, weighed out a truck grossing 139,000 pounds and sent it on down the road. I think it made it safely there, that time. Not so sure about the condition of the road after that.

Please see opening scene to "Blood Simple," the first Coen bros. movie. It about sums it up for me.

This was a scary one from not too long ago. At least two lawsuits are pending, but fortunately no one was killed.

Not to mention the NAFTA 18 wheelers from Mexico.

How has that panned out? Are they on the roads here yet, inspected, drivers vetted?

Sounds to me like you are looking for stuff to worry about.

Yep, I don't have a lot going on these days beyond my full time job, 2 very small kids and moving. I need to settle down when there are bulging tires on a freeway when I have small kids in the car. When it is your time to go, nothing you can do. Besides, it is Texas, it is the wild west.

Call 911 and report them, especially if it is obvious. DPS loves to catch these guys, it just isn't that easy to find them unless you are randomly next to them. FWIW, I don't think it is epidemic - most trucks generally are in acceptable condition and low-air is a quick way to ruin tires, which are very expensive to replace.

VBG - I really don't know, it might be if they are well under their maximum load and are not exceeding ground pressure requirements.
