All over the USA SWAT abuse occurs quite frequently. This one is here in Austin. They make no effort to use less than Macho efforts to fight their war on drugs. I would love to be on this jury.... NOT GUILTY.

Police in Austin, Texas, say Tyler Harrell, an 18-year-old who was charged with attempted capital murder after he shot an officer in the knee during a drug raid last April, must have known the armed men storming his house before dawn were cops.

But don't worry: All the risk to life and limb was totally worth it. Police found 34 grams (a little more than an ounce) of marijuana in the house. As KVUE notes, it was "just enough to charge someone with a misdemeanor."

Hey, at least the thugs went into the correct house this time, instead of killing innocent people and dogs after they storm the wrong house, which seems to happen alarmingly frequently. Kudos APD!

Cops are perfect and blameless as their internal investigations show. How dare you question them!

I wonder what the financial break down for this type of raid costs the local taxpayer, all to get an oz of cannabis off the streets.

Too bad the entire neighborhood heard it was a SWAT Police raid prior to the warrant being served. It was announced over the PA and the entire neighborhood was aware that it was the police.

But that is okay. I know a thugged out drug dealer/ known gang member has more credibility than the police in Austin. Your article may as well have been from CopBlock.

The entire neighborhood? Now that's hilarious.

What would your first reaction be in the middle of the night if you heard your door being destroyed and your mother screaming?

And BTW, why do you need a violent SWAT raid when it's just an ounce of weed? Is it really worth risking lots of lives to catch somebody with an ounce of weed?

They got a tip (probably another druggie) that a big time drug dealer was operating out of the house, so they did some trash can snooping & found evidence of drug usage (a few seeds in a baggy?) and empty rifle casings.
lol.... time to roll out the armored vehicle & tactical invasion force to play Special Ops!..... instead of arresting the guy while he's walking over to 7/11 for a Big Gulp.

Great use of expensive resources.

And one officer possibly crippled for life & destined for early retirement on disability, plus the family dog is dead. 34 grams of weed. Geezuz.

Then again, the raid happened before 6 a.m., when Harrell and his parents presumably were asleep.
Sunrise was around 6:30am. It was still dark out and most people would be sleeping then.
