My brother-in-law, his wife and their 3 month old baby are driving 14 hours from northern Alabama to visit us in late August.

His wife is constantly messaging me asking what there is to do in Austin with a baby. Quite honestly, since it's been many, many years since I've had a baby and can't think of ANYTHING you can do with a baby anywhere at the age of 3 months except sit home, I'm at a loss to any ideas.

It's hot as hell in mid August and she is not an outdoor person, so that leaves out going to parks or on hikes around the lake.

As far as museums and indoor stuff, Austin museums are really not all that interesting and the baby is not old enough to enjoy places like Austin's Park or Main Event.

Anyone with any ideas or suggestions??

Ummm, all the regular things you'd normally do with regular guests with some room for one-two naps a day at home? Am I missing something here? Aside from napping -- which 3 month olds can do anywhere for at least two naps a day -- you just need to be easy going about stopping to feed baby/change baby, being at home at night and that's IT.

I've had two, one in Austin, it's a non issue. It's MUCH easier than if the child were one year old. Or two years old. Or three years old.

You should discourage them from visiting in August. It is a horrible time of year to visit Austin in the heat.

3 month olds can usually enjoy the baby pool quite nicely.

What can't you do with a baby that small? Put the baby in a sling and do whatever you want -- the Blanton and the Texas History museum are worth a visit. A 3 month old baby can't really get much out of any attraction, the Thinkery is nicely air-conditioned and a toddler can get a lot out of it.

We had extended family here in July, we advised against it since several members of the family have health issues that make handling the heat extra hard, but they wouldn't listen to us!! They did enjoy the Texas History museum but frankly they ended up spending most of their time in an air-conditioned house. It was not a great visit, hope yours goes better.

I love Austin and love the heat but pretty much just try to survive mid-August, good luck!

Ask them what they do at home with a 3 month old infant. That will help you figure out what to do with them while they are here.
