Hello all,

My college son was asked by a friend to bring back a good cowboy hat for him. Since we are new in town, we have no idea where to go. Would you please kindly share your shopping advice with us.

Thanks!

P.S. Thank you for all the people who are willing to share their wisdom and advice for newbies like me.

Cavender's on Burnet just south of 183.

Yup. Cavender's! They have several locations, any one will do. Summer hats (straw) and winter hats (felt) should both be in supply.

Might be good to check the country of origin on the hat or other items. We were in a well-known boot and hat store recently and I spotted some attractive pistol cases. There were no price tags on them, so I had to do a little inspecting. Finally found the little bitty tag that said "Made in China"...not exactly an authentic Texan(or even Mexican) piece of merchandise

Depends on how "nice" you want to go. Manny's Texas Hatters is the traditional place but they are custom hat makers.

Callahan's is a great place to go for off the rack and a bit of Austin history. (Fascinating place to shop.)

I love Callahan's. Well worth the experience. I just wish there was one closer to me.

If you go to Cavender's ask if Mason is there - he will shape your hat for you and do a great job!
