Last time we tried Salt Lick it was underwhelming...but what I am learning is there are not many options for a large group of 45 ppl.

The Salt Lick isn't really near 35/71 either. It's going to be pretty tough getting 40 people into a restaurant on Sunday - everywhere decent / centrally located (and both) will be packed. The only place I can think of would be Green Mesquite on Barton Springs. They have the room, but I think a party of 40 would overwhelm the staff - you might even have to warn them a day in advance. I love that place though.

Have you talked to the folks at Hill's Cafe? If the weather is nice they should have plenty of outdoor seating. My company has done events there before.

For great local joints at that location, I highly recommend Catfish Parlour (4705 E Ben White), Habanero (501 W Oltorf - very small, so arrive early if lunch), Vic's BBQ (3502 Burleson) and Jalisco's (6601 South Congress).

Happy eating!

There's a GattiTown south of there on I35 in Southpark Meadows as well.

Another Austin original you could check out is Dan's Hamburgers. The one on Manchaca & Ben White/71 will be the closest. Just a 5 minute drive from I35/71. It'll be a little tighter (especially w/ parking), but it's really good.

Edit: I just saw your group is 40 people...that'd be tough at Dan's.

IMO, Hill's Café has been in a downward spiral for a decade. It was really good when it first re-opened under Bob Cole. But it steadily declined. I'll go back maybe once a year or two to see if it's improved. I haven't been back in over a year because it was still depressing.
I went there and found it pretty grim.

Don in Austin
