Hi.. any info on the year round weather in the Canyon lake, San Marcos area
would be greatly appreciated. How bad is the mesquito season?
what about other pests? Is San Marcos-Canyon Lake the only rolling hills area? My brother use to live in the San Marcos area years back.. How is it
today? Crime? Housing Market? Area's to avoid? best Area's? Is there a
difference in property taxes for Austin, Canyon Lake area, San Marcos, New braunfels Counties? Thanks Folks!

The Hill Country is quite a large region and encompasses MANY towns, not just San Marcos. Don't know much else about San Marcos since the only time I'm there is to go to the outlets

I imagine the closer you are to water, the more mosquitos you'll have. I didn't have much of a problem when I lived in San Marcos (at MY house) but I know some folks have tons.

New Braunfels has a lower property tax rate I think. Not too sure about Canyon Lake. If you find a place in the county (vs city), you'll save $$$ on property taxes also but will most likely have a septic tank.

There are LOTS of areas to consider in the hill country- all are really nice/scenic with lots of open land.

Good luck in your search!

If we get alot of rain then we have mosquitos.
If we get little rain then we have chiggers.

I'd rather get bit by a mosquito over a chigger any day.

Mesquitos? Sounds like a new smoke flavored cheese snack! Chiggers, you don't want to mess with chiggers. They are little tiny bugs that inject enzymes into your skin which liquifies it. Once liquified, they eat you like human flavored jello.

I forgot all about chiggers....Keep the grass cut short (helps), wear long pants and shoes (no sandals).

Between snakes, scorpians, chiggers, & turantulas I'm surprised I survived as long as I did in San Marcos.
