I am going to throw this out here since nobody else brought it up. Since you're moving from Miami and have a Spanish username, I am going to go out on a limb and assume that you are Latin and love living amongst fellow Latins.

Austin, specifically, and Texas, generally, have very few Spanish-speakers of any kind other than Mexicans. Search City-Data for other conversations on the topic. There are others who loved living in Eastern Caribbean communities on the East Coast who got here and feel like there's nobody like them. Mover beware.

Not true. The majority of people in the lower income areas are Central American, Guatemalan, Honduran, El Salvadorian....with the immigration crisis a huge chunk (not all) are central American and not Mexican. There are several pockets of Peruvians as well (I have met three without even trying since being here...well two here specifically but know of three...)

Thank you all for your response;
I would try to answer all your questions:
I'm currently married so living the single life it's not really my thing, in reality, I'm moving because of a salary increase, I received the offer of 90k/year + Bonus wich is like 20k more of what I'm making now, but really want to accept because of the challenge.

i would like to stay below 2k/ month for rent, i was looking at 1bd apartment sthe rent goes from 1100-1500.

A few thoughts are:
Yes, you can live reasonably well on that income here, but you need to decide what to do with the house in FL.
Round Rock has nice housing available for under $1,500 monthly, and larger than 1 bdr.
Traffic can be a challenge if you are on a heavily travelled route. Recommend you live close to work area.

FYI - People on this forum consider Austin to mean only the area within Austin's actual city boundaries. If you are seeking advice about the greater Austin metro area you will need to express that. You would have housing choices in multiple communities such as Round Rock, Cedar Park, Leander, Pflugerville, or Georgetown as well as Austin. You should come check out the area and see what you think before diving in.

Hey congrats on the pay bump, the usual narrative is that people move here for the hype and take a pay cut or lateral salary and discover the COL is higher than expected.

They then discover that the same job will pay 20% more in Houston or Dallas, then they come here to vent.

Best of luck with the apartment search.

It depends on the industry, of course. I took a pay cut and I'd make 10-15k more in Houston/Dallas. It is what it is. I'm not a techie.

I wouldn't do it for less or lateral salary; it's not really a wise thing to do unless you really want to move there. I believe that with 90k I'm still underpaid but the bonus I think will do the job. right now I make 70k but i really want a change.

I'm working on my negotiation of relocation expenses, so far the numbers are not great especially since we leased our cars and we would have to pay the taxes on them. does 10k sound reasonable? anyone have some input on what expenses i should look into it. so far i have the following:

Moving Expenses
Rental Truck $1,600.00
Moving Helpers $300.00
Location Scouting $2,000.00
Car Transportation $2,000.00
Taxes on vehicles $3,500.00
Registration and Tag $700.00
$10,100.00

Thank you
