I guess my retired Colorado friends who moved here are the exception to your generalization.

East Coast folks tend to last at most 5 years then back to the East coast.
Once again, I guess my retired friends from Boston and New Jersey are the exception to your generalization.

Austin traffic is not likely to improve for at least 20 years and probably more. We have an anti-automobile city council and they have no plans to make measurable improvements.

Ask your NJ and Boston friend if they like it here. Ask if they like the heat, red ants, traffic.

We're talking Austin specifically not Texas.

Red Ants?

Seriously? People are leaving Austin because of ants?

Oddly enough I have a friend in the Midwest that told me he was "tired of the heat, red ants, and traffic."

I kid you not. I did respond "have you heard of Terminix?"

I know a native austinite who left because of ant allergy. No joke. But they had the rare kind that could kill them.

I'm a northeasterner who's been here over a decade and I'm not going anywhere. You can't get rid of me. Love the heat, kill the ants, and traffic is bad everywhere. If I wanted a house near Boston for the same price, I'd be in New Hampshire. So you can't tell me that's worse.

Of all the people I know who moved away, most left for work/career reasons. It had very little to do with Austin itself.

Yeah for this person he had a serious ant allergy. Not life threatening, but it required an epipen.

San Antonio pound for pound has better bones than Austin as a city and people are finding that out. Overpriced and overhyped can only last for so long.
