I'm moving next week to Austin, and curious as to how easy it is to land an office support type job for 13 or so bucks an hour....I'm not looking for much, just enough to pay the bills as I get situated rooming with someone for 450 a month for awhile .......anyone out there in the same situation?

What you plan to do? Profession?
If McDonalds, NO.

If @ Office Max or StarBucks , no!

If Admin work or IT, then maybe.

Car Sales? Probably

Call a temp agency and see if they can place you at $13/hr.

Almost all call center jobs here start at $13 an hour. And there are a LOT of them.

Major stupid question, as I know that classifieds usually have such offerings, but any tips on how to find them? I'm at this point not beneath taking such a job. It's starting to look really good to me now. I worked at Citigroup in Chicago as head receptionist/security desk for $17 an hour, but I know that isn't going to happen in Austin. The cheaper cost of living in Austin makes $13/hour come out about the same anyway. Are those call center jobs full-time or temp typically?Whoever this is, you are a lifesaver. I thank you kindly for the advice. When I move out there next week, I owe you a meal at Shady Acres. I'm not kidding on that one. Keep in touch and I'll treat ya! Thanks again.

Im not sure that assumption is true. We pay our admin 40K and she is almost fresh out of school. We have paid as low as 34K but werent able to get good candidates. FYI we also have full benefits.

Our UT student temp makes 10/hour. I think you can easily find a 17/hour admin job if not 20.

Bring money, as you will go through at least two weeks without a paycheck even if you find a job your first day, as all agencies hold back a week's pay.
Also you want first and last months rent, which should be another 400-1200 dollars. You want money also in case you have car problems, or run into other problems, and find yourself stuck in a strange city where you don't know anyone.....just be careful coming here with too little. The job market will be mega-tight if you come early June, with all the college students looking for temp summer jobs.ý“F..just be smart about it!
