Technically, your personal vote wasn't cancelled out. You were out voted. That's how voting works.

I do agree that the state and federal government can and sometimes should put in universal laws to make everything easier and safer. I question a bit whether that is what happened here.

And then the city was out-voted

Reminds me of the saying about the guy driving slow in front of you is an idiot, and the guy driving on your bumper is an assh0le. (not calling you either of those things! Just saying 'we' always think we are right, and everyone else is wrong).

Food is a necessity. Using ride-sharing services are not. People don't have a choice to eat or not. And plenty of foods are bad for you. There's nothing good about soda, but I don't see people crying for it to not be sold in Austin. People know they are bad and are left to decide for themselves whether they want to consume them.

If that applies to Uber, surely it applies to the very food and the kinds of food and the food establishments we go to?
I never said we should all get to choose whatever we want with no regulations. My choice to use Uber doesn't affect you or your safety, so I don't understand why you are concerned about it. And Uber does follow regulations, just like restaurants and food trucks do.

Or at least outspent. Somebody probably has a big fat Uber check on their desk.

No, Uber wasted $9M going against the city. The polling and advocacy and marketing people all got that money. I must have been phone polled 5 or 6 times on ride share questions during the runup to the vote.

And really, the city trumped itself when the new city council came in with tougher restrictions than the ones the prior city council had allowed Uber to operate under (though they were deemed temporary). So the city undid itself before the State undid the City.

To me, they are all idiots. Or should I blame those who elect them?

Steve

I would not say they arent idiots, they are operating with a set of facts and priorities that may not fully align with yours.
