Wife has potentially locked in a gig in the NE and we are likely relocating. I would like to lease the house we currently own and have never been in this position before. Recommendations on how to keep costs low and tenants happy, while not being present. Also, how is the NE and what am I gong to hate after living in Austin for all of my life?

My native born Texas kids are chomping at the bit to get out of this state and to the NE, so maybe you will like it? I keep telling them that they will miss Texas.

To be a long-distance landlord, you really need a management company, someone needs to be here on the ground to handle re-leasing, repairs, etc.

Agreed...you could end up in a lush mountain forest or on the coast in a quaint port town or in a place where the snow doesn't melt until this time of the year...

....UNLESS you meant NE Texas !!!

I lived and worked in Manhattan for over 20 years. While living up there included many enjoyable experiences, I cried with JOY when I was able to finally return home to Texas. There is no place like Texas.

Good luck in the NE.

The big problem is our kids. My family is here and hers is there. Win for her family and big loss for my family in terms of seeing the kids.

Moved to the NE from Austin two years ago. It's fantastic. So much to do and see and it's all SO close, so much culture. Beautiful weather and seasons.

Miss nothing about Austin except breakfast tacos.

It always makes me wonder why, when I see people who no longer live in Austin, and apparently were not impressed with Austin, still peruse Austin's city forum. Why stick around on the forum, if the city did not impress you?
