That is what I was thinking. They can be VERY LOUD! Heard plenty of those too.

A year ago a power line snapped by us and it LIT UP THE SKY! It was the middle of the night and it was LOUD! You would have thought a bomb had just dropped. The flash of light was so bright that it lit up the inside of the house w/ shutters all close brighter than during the day w/ them open. Then because of the light all of the street lights went dark (sensors). It was VERY strange.

LOL! I think I even heard you over here in Chicago!

Seriously though, there are Squirels in my neighborhood that run on the electric wires and when they hit a certain unprotected spot, it causes a huge boom sound like an explosion, and unfortunately, the poor animal is fried! My windows even rattle when it happens. Maybe that's the sound?

That actually happens?!
It sounds like a cartoon. I hope power lines are safer than that in Austin! Shouldn't every spot on a power line be protected?

Well, you would think so, but calls to the electric company had gone ignored until recently. A cover was put on the exposed area, as I was told, but I think there was another "boom!" even after that was done.

Fried squirrel is not all that bad, especially if it is well done. Just kidding of course.

Yes! We all heard it! It was the Smithville UFO checking out N. Austin.

To bad I didn't have my camera ready.

I also heard that Alvin and the Chipmunks were in town.
