I've always understood it as Dallas being further inland hence less moderated by the gulf (as in large body of water) which helps stabilize temperatures. Similar to how the coast of California has minimal temperature swings and stays mild year round while inland has much wider temperature swings.

Houston is the only place I have ever had my glasses fog up when both leaving and entering buildings.

The best thing about the Houston climate is that every building is refrigerated. Not air-conditioned, refrigerated.

You gotta be tough to live in Texas.

And, when the Yankees come down, the first ice storm they all make fun of the Texans on the road... till they get out there and find that the 1/2" of snow they think is "no problem" is the covering of 1" of ice, with a thin layer of water on top of it... and no salt on the roads. "But my four wheel drive Subaru did just fine up North." Yep, 4 times nothin' is still nothin'.

Somewhere I read that Dallas actually has the most challenging (combination of temperature and humidity) summer climate of anywhere in the US. Having grown up there, I can believe it.

Well, then throw in the propensity for hail, thunderstorms, and tornadoes, and what do you do? Why, build a major airline hub!

I've seen plenty of people, both natives and transplants, do the same thing in DC. They believe the car makers commercials that 4 wheel drive means you can just drive like normal in any conditions. Can't count how many times I've had a SUV fly past me on wintery roads only to see them spun out on the side a little further down.

Not sure if we're Yankees, everyone south thinks so, but everyone north of it thinks we're southerners
