Lol why dont people who cry and moan over a place just leave? I've personally did it with literally zero savings but with strategic planning. Your not bound to stay anywhere. If this place makes you so unhappy then find somewhere that does?

Well said.
I left California for Texas almost 18 years ago with nothing but determination and the will to work hard.
I've accomplished so much in my time here and even if I leave TX, it will forever hold a special place in my heart.

California...not so much. That's why I left.

This bitter moron used to be a music critic at the Statesman and periodically for the Chronicle. He has always been an unhappy, cranky old dude. I see things haven't changed.

This was a bitter piece when he wrote it 2012 and it hasn't aged well.

What a whiney turd. Who are these people who are so reliant upon a city's character to define their own happiness?

Yeah, I find it odd that so many people think that a municipal boundary definition (or proximity to) makes them happy or unhappy.

I admit I ebb and flow on my Austin resentments. Had a great 4 mile walk/run around Town Lake this morning with a friend of almost 30 years. I never get tired of the lake trail. It's really a crown jewel of Austin, right at my downtown door step.

Yet as I sit in my office near Mopac and Bee Caves, and notice it's almost 4:30, I'm aware that Blues on the Green is also on my doorstep, and last time I got stuck at 6:30PM spending 90 freaking mind numbing minutes getting home via Mopac->Ceasar Chaves->Lamar-.Toomey because Zilker Park gets shut down and everything nearby is gridlocked. So I better wrap it up and leave now, or make plans to not go home until after 11PM.

Such is life in Austin. The good gets gooder, and the bad gets worser.

Steve
