I like the "Hill Country Modern" look, with the Austin stone exterior and moderately pitched roofs with flat concrete shingles.

I'm talking about the modern style homes, not the huge mcmansions with ornate details. I haven't really seen these modern style homes in PA. I live in a new construction modern row home but the look of the single family is much more appealing to me.

Are these types of homes exclusive to Austin? Surely there has to be some more in other parts of the country but I've never seen them in PA! Anyway.. I give props to your city for that! It's almost enough to make me want to move there but the heat and distance from family is a consideration.
Are these the kind of houses you're talking about?

I googled it and saw a lot of glass and flat roofs. Flat roofs don't do well where it snows, they have to be shoveled off or they collapse.

She's not talking about the glass and flat roofs. She's talk about the angles. This is similar to the house I had posted that she said she was talking about.

That's a shed. Maybe ok to rent for a week with another couple, but not a house to live in.
And yes, Austin is afflicted with too many going up in this style. Must be cheap to build. To the extent that current development codes favor this style, shame on Austin.

The rich of California have many homes that look like this. There are going to be some in the other Texas cities too, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. The modern look is very common here in the exclusive parts of Austin.
