Interviewed at two places this week for jobs in Austin. Pretty sure I will lock down one of them. I've been to the city twice, but never really spent much more than a day or two. Are there alot of single women between 35-45? I've noticed the city to be very young and prospects to be low for my age...pretty much anywhere would be low other than NYC or LA.

You'll be fine. You'll be wading through lots of women who enjoy, hiking, brunch, traveling, yoga and their dogs. And by traveling I mean passing through for SXSW, ACL and all the other "fun" things we have going on. That's the online scene. Of course if you get involved in stuff you like then you should be able to find someone.

If you like to casually date Austin is about the worst place you can be as a guy outside of Silicon Valley. If you want to long term girlfriend or wife, it's better to import one from another part of the US or beyond. (Austin's appeal at least helps with that.)

why is Austin bad for men who want to casually date?Is it because tech workers tend to be men?

If you can’t find an active social life in the 35-40 range, you’re not trying.

I’ve never had an issue.

There are way more single young men than single young women in Austin. This includes your age group of 35-45. There is roughly 110 single men for every 100 single women in the age group you are looking for. In most cities on the East coast the ratio is reversed, with more women than men. The only silver-lining is that if you decide to move here at least you aren't looking for single women in the 25-34 year old range. There are roughly 122 single men for every 100 single women in the 25-34 age group. The dating scene here is brutal for men. The competition for the few attractive single women you meet not in a bar without baggage is fierce. I'm getting out of Austin once my lease is up because I have no desire to stay single the rest of my life. If I were you I'd avoid Austin if you are a single guy.
