Hi, new to this forum and my husband and I are thinking of relocating to the area, specifically Pfluegerville or Round Rock, or other surrounding towns. We're both in our early 50's. Would love any input people can provide about jobs, dog friendly places, great shopping, etc. What is the living like? I know my questions are vague but any input would be great. Thank you!

What is your price range for renting or buying a house?

What kind of work do you do?

Austin/Pf-ville/RR are all dog-friendly places and there is plenty of shopping. Why exactly are you considering Central Texas?

Word of caution, property taxes are high and can make living here in retirement challenging.

Heavy sigh. Why Austin? Where are you coming from? Have you been to Austin? Have you been in the summer? Did you come during SXSW and now want to move here? The search forum is an AMAZING tool.

Never been to SXSW, I’m from New England, my husband is from the UK, we found out he may be relocated there for work so we’re trying to figure out whether we’d want to make the move there or if he would not do the relocation and look for another job. I’ve been to Austin, he has not but we’ve been to Texas 5-6 times together just not Austin area. Price range is <300k. Thought I would do as much research first to find out about the area, and what people who live here think about it.

Heavy sigh? Have you even lived here two years yet?
Little bit hypocritical, don’t you think?

Sorry, but you’ve got to be here for at least 5 years before being able to sigh.
8-10 before you can gripe about any other transplants,
12-14 before you can say “Austin used to”
15+ and you’re essentially a native

The clock starts when you realize it’s Austin, TX - not “ATX”

First and foremost is the job location for him. Are you going to be working as well? If so - any particular industry?

What do you like to do for fun? Amenities needed/wanted nearby?

Is the 300K range factoring in that you’re talking about an area with some of the highest property tax rates?

What kind of housing are you looking for?

Did all the recent news coverage about Round Rock and Pflugerville pique your interest?
