Not to overly concerned about where we land in Austin as we'll be renting for 24 months. School district is actually more important at this point.
Steiner doesn’t zone to Anderson, which is a great school. Honestly - the area that zones to Anderson is probably going to fit you much better than Steiner (Vandergrift).

Also, Steiner has ONE course, not courses. UT Golf Club, which is private.

@Austin97 - Ohio State is the same way here in OH...Send 95% of the kids that apply to feeder schools outside of Columbus (but if you are paying out of state fees, they accept open arms). I assumed that UT would be tough to get into as a freshman. Other options? Texas A&M?

How are the schools around Steiner? Is that Anderson? Good School?

About 6 inches over the last decade. I’ll be fishing the gulf, then coming back for an early Sunday tee time followed by some grill time and basketball.

You’ve obviously never landed at ABIA at 4:15 on a Friday and slogged your way back to Steiner after a week on the road.

Another question for the group. DW is an Oncology Infusion RN. Does anyone know of places around Austin that are cancer treatment centers. Most likely part of a healthcare center. Like to add that to the evaluation of locations.

Regarding colleges...

UT is tough for auto-admit (next year top 6% of class), but don't rule it out yet. UT will also take some outside the auto-admits, but it helps if you're not going for their most selective programs (engineering, business). Some of the other majors are a little easier to get placed in. About 27% of the seniors from our kid's school got in last year because UT knows they come in well-prepared. So there's a lot of factors to consider.

That said, if he wants to study business, UT McCombs school is one of the hardest programs to get into. Even the auto-admit kids are only guaranteed admission to UT, but not a particular program. So you could be top 6% and still not get into McCombs.

A&M has a very good business program (Mays school) and that would be a good option for him to consider.

Don't rule out some of the private universities. If he has good grades and good scores, Trinity, SMU, TCU and others are known to hand out a lot of merit money to those kids, effectively bringing the cost close to parity or better (even free sometimes!) with the Texas public universities

He will find good options here if he wants to stay in state.

Yes I have. I purposely scheduled later flights (landing 7pm) for that reason.
