OK, it has been a long time, but maybe someone on here knows this place…

Back in 1989 I was stationed out at Goodfellow AFB in San Angelo (it was only for a few months, so I survived). We used to come to Austin all the time for the weekend, staying at Bergstrom AFB and hitting 6th Street and some of the other fine places around town.

One weekend we were out looking for a place to eat, and found a nice restaurant which had some of the best shrimp scampi I have ever eaten. Unfortunately, about the only thing I remember about the place (besides the shrimp) was that they had a piano player who was positioned behind a large picture that served as a “curtain” between performances.

Now I am not even sure if the place is around anymore…to be honest, I don’t expect it is; but by chance does anyone know which restaurant it was, and where it was located?

Cheers! M2

Headliners East might have served some shrimp, I don't really recall (I was doorman there for a very brief while ), but yes, that place is long gone. Pecan Street has been around a long time and is still there, as well.

Assuming it was on 6th street, but if it wasn't, that leaves a lot of options....

EDIT: kinda off topic, but did a quick search on Headliners, and this is an interesting article from 1996 about live music and 6th street...

No, it wasn't on 6th Street, I just remember it being in a strip mall somewhere. If I recall correctly, it was two-stories tall inside, and a somewhat classy place although we weren't dressed up and they said it wasn't a problem...

La Feria - the place that no-chargie for the TEA!! Just kidding, that place is pretty sick.

two-stories, not sure. So many Mexican restaurants out here. They come and go, sad to say.
