When I lived elsewhere, I used a DVR from the local cable company, and I disliked that DVR. It would only record two channels at a time and the fast forward option always left the recording in the wrong place. I had to either back it up or slightly forward the recording to get to the start of the programming. I since went to DirecTV an their DVR is great. Four channel recording capability and the DVR stops at the exact place when fast forwarding at any speed. Over the previous DVR the DirecTV DVR was like the difference between 8-track tapes and streaming video.

Now, I'm asking about the DVR from Grande Cable. I don't want to use a TIVO because I have to pay extra. Does anyone use a Grande cable DVR? How many programs can be recorded at once? Will the fast forward option stop at the correct place? Please let me know. Thanks.

Grande Cable uses a TiVo sourced DVR. It has Grande's name on it, you pay Grande, but it's actually made by, and uses the software of, TiVo. It is an excellent DVR, can record either 4 or 6 programs at once, and the REW/FF work perfectly. I know all this because I have one! (Not from Grande, but same hardware Grande uses)

Grande may or may not have a cheaper in-house DVR, but you do not want to use it. It is crap. Even if the TiVo unit is a few bucks more, it is worth it. Believe me, having a hassle-free, works-like-it-oughta DVR is worth it.

Thanks for the info. Did you have to pay a subscription fee to TIVO for the DVR, too in addition to the Grande fee?

I don't have the Grande unit, but I believe the answer is no, the only fee you pay is to Grande.
