I just figured you were out there buying AvGas. Which, if you have a carb’d vehicle like my 71 stepside C10 with a 502 makes a SUBSTANTIAL difference. Today’s vehicles? Not so much.

93 is not needed by the majority of vehicles on the road; yet many think it's a better "grade" of petrol and are throwing away money every year.(Would be around$600/yr between our two cars...that's full coverage insurance for one of them!)

Higher octane rating is not "better" gas. It has higher ignition point and are required on engines with high compression ratio so that the gas does not auto ignite before spark plug is fired. Higher octane gas also burns slower, so unless your engine is designed for high octane gas, you can get incomplete combustion and eventual carbon deposit.


On the other hand, if your car has high compression ratio and require premium gas, you should use it so that you get the designed performance and avoid knock/ping. Though modern day cars have knock sensors and will adjust settings on the fly to deal with the situation if you put regular gas accidentally.

AND...if you are in search of ethanol-free petrol, Murphy is offering that option at two new stations way up here...Lake Creek Blvd Walmart and 1431/Ronald Reagan WalMart. Interesting that it is only available in 87 octane and costs a good SIXTY cents a gallon more than their 'standard' 87. That's quite a "premium", if you'll pardon the pun.
