In your case, you should have stopped PRIOR to entering the intersection, but you were following so closely and not paying attention that you could not see the bus stopped in time.

I gave you a positive point CalTex because I agree I obviously need to stop passing school buses. However there was no car ahead of me-not sure you understand. The truck was also across in the opposite lane in front of the school bus. I could draw a diagram for you and it would make perfect sense. The angle of the street, the giant truck stopped next to the school bus and then driving forward all made for a "suddenly the bus is there scenario and I was unable to leave myself physically in the middle of the intersection cause that seemed stupid.
