Hello,

We are looking to move to Texas somewhere South of Austin and North of San Marcos, and I was wondering if there are:
- any cohousing condos or homes (1200 - 1700 sq. ft., with no stairs) available to purchase in 2019 or 2020

- or a ranch style home with a mother-in-law suite or casita that is in an area where we could have chickens (4 or 5) and bees (for family use only not commercial)

- we have a budget of $250,000- $400,000

We are in our early 50's with no children and we work from home. Looking for a safe neighborhood that has parks and/or mature trees near by. We don't mind driving 20 min. to 1 hour to get to the stores, restaurants, banks, etc.

For those who are wondering what cohousing is ( I had to look it up)

Quote:
Cohousing is an intentional community of private homes clustered around shared space. Each attached or single family home has traditional amenities, including a private kitchen. Shared spaces typically feature a common house, which may include a large kitchen and dining area, laundry, and recreational spaces. Shared outdoor space may include parking, walkways, open space, and gardens. Neighbors also share resources like tools and lawnmowers.

Households have independent incomes and private lives, but neighbors collaboratively plan and manage community activities and shared spaces. The legal structure is typically an HOA, Condo Association, or Housing Cooperative. Community activities feature regularly-scheduled shared meals, meetings, and workdays. Neighbors gather for parties, games, movies, or other events. Cohousing makes it easy to form clubs, organize child and elder care, and carpool.

Unfortunately, there is no cohousing in Texas yet. You probably checked the Cohousing directory. There's a forming group in Austin that's been meeting for some years now, but they don't seem to be going anywhere. The Houston group is making great progress. They're very organized and they're now bidding on land.

Closest I've heard of is a place in Lampasas that had a half-dozen different folks(various artisans ) living on a single private property and chipping in to maintain the place and the land. That was quite a few years ago, however.
