Hi! I’m currently an assistant general manager who also bartends a few nights a week in Fort Lauderdale. Its a great bar that’s always busy but I’m growing tired of south Florida. I’m hoping a can find a summer gig in Austin so I can wake board all summer then move to aspen for the winter. Id like to know if Austin bars hire bartenders for the summer months or if it’s busier in the winter. If any of y’all are in the biz please let me know and maybe toss me a few spots where I should start looking thanks!

It's actually more Spring/Fall than it is Summer. Not a great fit for what you want to do. I mean, you can come here and bartend and make money for a summer, but the festival and football seasons are where the big $$ is at.

You'll bank during our big events like ACL, SXSW and football season, as mentioned before. Summer dies down a bit because the students aren't here and there aren't big events in the summer here.

There are so many service type jobs in Austin, I bet you can get a job as a bartender or a barback at just about any bar or club in the downtown and/or UT area - and maybe even possibly have enough leverage to set your own hours - when you consider that just about every restaraunt, store, and hotel in the Austin area is hiring.

Locally, it's a "workers/employees" market which translates into higher than usual wages and better benefits for the workers because the companies and workplaces will have to compete against each other in order to hire and retain the best employees; rather than the other way around (like it usually is), when the workers must compete against each other for the chance for a job.
