This isn't surprising to me. I find driving in South Austin and through downtown to be worse than driving in Houston.

Austin ranks #19 in the U.S. and #179 globally.

Austin made their bed and now must lie in it.

TomTom? Seriously? Do people even still use them for traffic?

Not defending Austin, because traffic does suck, but I’d be curious if age plays a part in this. Because younger folks are using Google Maps/Waze.

I'm having a hard time believing where San Antonio is sitting in that list. It seemed fairly moderate to me.

Austin probably does have the worst traffic in Texas however. However it seems that is only if you're commuting downtown. Suburban commutes still seem pretty reasonable.

TomTom has terrible methodology, but I agree with the conclusion.

San Antonio is growing very rapidly. I dread driving back that way now whereas in 2015-16 it wasn’t that much of a drag to drive back to see family. 410 and 1604 are horribly congested at times/most times these days.

Admittedly 1604 did seem like it was dated in comparison to say 45 in Austin.

410 reminded me of something out of Los Angeles.

another study using the same methodology as the inrix study. They look at the least congested vs most congested times. If it takes 10minutes without congestion and 20 minutes with congestion that is a 100% increase.

In other cities it is congested all the time so it might take 20 minutes and increase to 30 minutes during rush hour, only a 50% increase.

Another important number is average commute time. That also takes into account the price of housing close in that allows people to have shorter commutes because the city is more compact.

who cares about the most congested times vs the least congested times. I want to know the average commute time.

By commute time we are way down on the list.

Traffic on i35 is just bad in Austin and even between SA and Austin. 1604 has gotten so bad over the couple of years that they really do need to find a solution to it.

I avoid 1604 now. It was a great drive before everyone moved there too.
