I had to go to San Antonio at 4pm and I-35 from Downtown to 45 was a cluster jam so I decided I'd just bypass it on 183... was pleasantly surprised to find the Toll Road open and allowing tag users to use it for free until August 31st.

I ended up just taking the 130 Toll to San Antonio (which is where I'm typing from currently) ... I love the 85 MPH speed limit but my God America does not need an autobahn. Between inattentive drivers, left lane hoggers and cars plainly not road worthy at that speed (I literally saw an SUV blow a steer tire infront of me. He almost nevent into the median but saved it barely) it's a very involved experience.

does that mean you can go all the way to 71 with no lights?

Yeah but there is still alot of construction and alot of the toll road is only 1 lane each way in construction zones...some of it is 2 or 3 lanes depending on what section you're on... but yeah there are no stop lights from 290 to 71 unless you take the access road (U.S. 183)

They've been working on some part of 183 between MoPac and down yonder since we moved here in '08.
I expect it to be finished about the time I quit driving.

Given that they've been working on some part of I35 between Dallas and Austin every time I've been on it ever since I first rode on it (I was 5) back in the 1950's when it was first being constructed, I wouldn't be surprised.

Things might have changed, but I was at the airport a couple of days ago and there are still lights at Bolm and Thompson (by Callahans). At the time, northbound was a bit further along than southbound, there were a couple of spots southbound when you're on the toll that it was down to a single lane but it looked more like they just needed to move some of the equipment out of the way vs any work needing to be done.

Yeah, it's been a long time coming, but things are finally to the point that you can see definite progress. Let's just hope it's not like 183 north of Mopac to 620 where traffic actually got worse when they finished the freeway

When they finish the interchange with 71, I’ll be interested.

This area has not been completed, as you have noted. The area open is the very northern end between 183/290 to Techin Center road. The beast part of the interchange (because it's such a headache) at 183/71/Montopolis is still at least a year away from being completed. The biggest step they've taken is to close the exit area between Airport and Cesar Chavez. You now have to exit near Bolm and drive around to get over to Airport. I think it will work out when stuff is all done, but it's a cluster and I'm dreading the thought of driving to one of my work sites near Vargas and 183. Now I know why my co-worker happily handed me that location.

Here is an article explaining a bit of the progress that was posted at the end of the month. https://www.kvue.com/article/money/e...9-d8e86ea66f19

I wonder what they did with the little old family cemetery that was on the side of the road?
