Hey, here's an idea: how about if the exit for 183 (or any other street) actually put you on 183. I know it's crazy, but it just might work.

It would also eliminate exiting a freeway and having to cross 3-4 lanes of traffic in order to turn right.
I'm sure someone will be along soon to complain about how people move here and then want Texans to change the way they do things just because the newcomers think some things were better where they came from. Texas has built freeways like this for years, why should they change now?

Born and raised Texan here. Educated at THE University of Texas.

And I hate frontage roads.

But maybe I'm just self loathing.

No I'd say you are Enlightened! It is absurd that when you think about it, almost every intersection between major highways in Austin has at least one of those areas where you have to get on the frontage road or surface street, and go through a stop light intersection in order to get on the other highway and resume your trip.

I reckon somebody learnt themselves a lesson afore they built way up north here. Pretty seamless transition from 183 to 45, 45 to 35 N/S, 45 to 130. I'll say it again...I'm glad they built all this 'stuff' on the north end before we moved here.

I wish they would build some roads OVER the lake, which isn't even lake, it's a "river", as I'm tired of driving around each and every curve.

The law has since changed, but at the time, state law required that land owners have driveway access to public roads. Thus to prevent land owners from having driveways on the main lanes, they built frontage roads to provide this access.

I love my access roads- I like being able to duck into a coffee place or bank and get right back on the highway. I also like the underpasses to turn around. I can't imagine why anyone would want to build more bridges over the lake...isn't that why people mover here? For the beauty?
