The direction of Austin, to serve the very rich with kickback patty-whacks they have all but forgotten the middle classes.
Instead of securing and protecting our inalienable rights, they create rights that do not exist. They are privileges here. What can be given, can be taken.
Our local government treats us as their Property, as if they know what is best for you, and the collective as a whole. We allow them to think for us, not just to secure our rights and let us live freely with our neighbors.
The Mayor thinks he and the city council can control about every aspect of your life, with some regulation placed upon it. WTH! Are you a child?
My god! If no one has threatened anyone, they have not harmed anyone or anyone's property, including public property, and they have not stolen or swindled anyone, leave us alone.

The Mayor spend more on beautification, instead of our roads and infrastructure. One big illusion.

The direction this city I have lived in for 50 years, is headed down a road to increased violent crime, theft, and property damage. Which brings on more of the POLICE STATE, like you are their Property and they must keep the people that pay their pay check safe????? They created this crap, so their solution is more BIG BROTHER watching your every move.

Tyranny comes in many forms.
How does it feel to be the Property of Austin?
When the heck did I consent to be governed and let someone else think for me, or face violence to force compliance? Sounds like Coercion to me.
If you want to be free and have the liberties of a free person to choose for yourself, outlined in the Constitution, Austin needs a new direction.

It does need a new mayor and I havent lived here anywhere near as long as you and probably other members here as well. I dont like how he handled the homeless situation and I agree the infrastructure needs to be addressed (although I believe that will end up more on a state level than a city level when it comes to financing the projects.)

On the other hand though,

As for serving this rich? Idk about that, remember they are paying an metric ton of property tax. They also have to deal with the panhandling problems the mayor pretty much endorsed.

Also, I havent seen anything here in retrospect of violent crime or even bad areas that can remotely compete with most major cities of this country. While it's no paradise, I wouldn't call Austin a police state, infact if I recall correctly their powers are limited on minorities and homeless.

So. Vote.

Get everyone you know to vote.

Local elections are often decided by less than 10% of the population. Change that b

The status quo will make an austin a city for the rich. The mayor and 7/10 of the city council members are trying to fix it.

It is ironic that austin's homeless are not rich and the city council is trying to help them. How is that a city for the rich?

The new land development code will create more "missing middle" units all over austin. Also not for the rich. In fact the rich are pushing back because they dont want duplex-fourplexes next door.

This sort of political rant does not belong on the Austin forum. Also, you claimed in the title that the mayor wasn’t being honest, then provided no example of where he has been dishonest. You only spewed hate.

That is pretty much how it works everywhere in this country. The U.S.A. is a great example of an oligarchy disguised as something else.

I agree that the mayor needs to be outted, but disagree he caters to the rich. The city council and the Mayor are making it to where only the wealthy can be comfortable because their "feel good" policies inadvertently hurt those they are trying to "help". They are group of people voted in by a minority of voters probably mostly made up of students, faculty, the disenchanted (perpetual "victims"), and retirees which tend to be made up of idealists.

Meanwhile, the working class (the largest group of tax contributors/residents) whom are busy actively contributing to society, and/or raising children, are least likely to vote due to their commitments; and are thus forced to endure the outcomes of our local politicians who have little real world experience managing budgets of any size, or leading large organizations. Thus continues the cycle of inefficiency, and dealing with the laws of unintended consequences, carried by those of us with most of the tax burden.

That said, while difficult, the US still offers the best prospects at providing you the life you chose to live assuming your outlook is that of overcoming challenges and not of victimhood. However, for non-tech small business owners, there are certainly more welcoming places than Austin.

So much stupid. Too busy to vote? Mail in? Early voting? Please stop.
