I wasn't saying Sunset Valley was unsafe. I was saying the other areas were unsafe. Although, I do know there's lots of childish shenanigans going on in the area while working with middle schoolers.

If I HAD to live in that area I might be able to handle it, but I’m a social worker and my tolerance for unkept is pretty high. I was talking to a guy who luces at the Breakers on riverside right by the trail a while back. He is from Chicago and a big muscle-y guy. He has a bat at his front door and won’t walk to the Riverside/pleasant Valley HEB because he’s afraid of the homeless guys. The area on Decker is borderline rural and there’s like three complexes in the area. And you have to drive to manor/290 to get to an HEB. Sunset valley is the only viable option, in your list, and those complexes are much like the ones on Lamar, maybe a tad safer.
when I first moved to austin I live in st johns, then rundberg. So yeah, I would. Totally safe.

The Saint john’s area closer to highland isn’t too bad, but there’s been several murders and assaults in the area around Grand Canyon snd Saint John’s. I worked in the area for my first few years here. I lived right by capital plaza. I wouldn’t recommend the areas you mentioned. But, that’s just me. Windsor park, closer to Mueller, maybe, but my complex and those nearby have been on the news for assaults, firework fires and murders as well. I can’t think of anything recent near north Lamar/rundberg, but I usually just say “oh Rundberg” when I hear those things since I didn’t live/work there (as much).
