10,000 black men are murdered each year.

Wait... only .001% of black men are killed by police?

10/10,000 = 0.1% according for an order of magnitude estimate, 0.4-0.5% for real numbers, of black male homicides are for-sure police misconduct where the use of deadly force wasn’t even justified. Include all non-firearm related deaths, where police in civilized countries would tase or subdue with martial arts, it’s 1.0-1.5%. That’s one small angle of the big picture.

I find it pretty alarming that a police officer thinks that it is acceptable to, at gunpoint, approach (and worse yet, arrest) any Black [or whatever race] unarmed civilian who happens to be wearing similar clothes and in the vicinity of crime - all while providing no explanation other than screaming orders. Yelling commands at people while holding a gun only creates a chaotic situation that quickly escalates.

That is not ok.

no, of black men that are killed via homicide, approximately .1% are unarmed men killed by police. The number actually killed by police is higher. The total killed as a percent of population is much lower (220/20,000,000)

If you wanted to save the most lives you would figure out how to save a fraction of the 99.9%

I do agree that we cant accept a police state. I do support defunding the police, but recognize it is an experiment that might not work (but it might work great).

I don't even know you know what the psychological profile requirements of a Police Officer are to be quiet frank for you. Texas is a polygraph state, most states do not polygraph their applicants. That should tell you a lot.
Yup, things are definitely different here

Please respond to what happened in San Antonio (just two hours south of here) https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/28/us/sa...rnd/index.html

Admittedly I was also thinking of that incident but I decided against bringing it up.

Defunding and entirely transforming the police worked spectacularly well in Newark. The taxpayers of Austin have had to pay close to 10 million dollars in wrongful death lawsuits for the APD killing Black and Latinx citizens in that last decade. We drastically need police reform. First make the police union liable for these wrongful deaths, even better make the individual police officers liable ...

Educate yourself. Google Nathaniel Sanders, Larry Jackson, David Joseph, Mauris DeSilva, Michael Ramos, Juan Roque. . .

I regret the unnecessary loss of life, but as an Austin citizen, I am also tired of footing the bill for APD killing POC in Austin...
