Urban Planning and transportation design has been a passion of mine since I was a kid. I literally used to take notepads and draw out road designs as well as other infrastructure wasting gobs and gobs of notebook paper (my parents hated me for this, instead of doing homework I was drawing Highways) - then came Sim City, and then came Camaroland!

This is the kind of stuff Camaro does when he gets bored.

If I chose to do a job for money I’d be doing a ***** job that I dislike. I didn’t get into social work for money, but it was what I was meant to do. (I think?)

Well truthfully I'm unsure how long I'm going to wig in IT mainly because of how critical it is to keep certs up to date and active. At Ascension some of the guys there are pretty much married to the company but have not kept up their certs and can't really go anywhere else so they take alot of BS. For me, I just took my JNCIA (getting into Juniper) last week and passed, I have to renew my CCNP or go for CCIE next year. Then alot of roles are requiring knowledge in security (Palo Alto usually, but sometimes Cisco ASA or Fortinet Firewalls) which I'm not strongly affluent on. I think I want to get stronger into DevOps because it seems less cert critical. I'm decent at Python and Ansible but I haven't really had to use it too much except at IBM. It becomes a chore and the industry changes pretty much every other week these days. Computers however were a thing I was also good at as a kid. I used to build small 2D games when I was a teenager.. ..well..beta and demo versions atleast, I could never really finish them.

When I'm older though, I don't know if I will be able to maintain a drive to keep up with tech and the required constant learning.

I drove through Austin Saturday afternoon, and I can't remember it ever being that bad when there wasn't an obvious cause. Both north and southbound. It seems like locals know where the choke-points are, and everything slows down in preparation at those spots even when there's no reason to.

As fundamentally opposed to TOLLED lanes as I am, I will ALWAYS take the new express lanes through Ft Worth, unless it's the middle of the night. Worth every penny. Like in Austin, people anticipate slowdowns and actually cause them. You can watch that happen from the express lanes.

Yeah I also take the Toll Lanes on I-820 and also 121 / 114 or I-635 LBJ Express. I Love I-635 LBJ Express. We need something like that down here.
