Planning to move from another Texas city to Austin. We have travelled to Austin a few times and generally familiar with it.

Requirements:
3000 sq/ft +, 4 bedroom, 2 story home
Great schools
Nice backyard
Easy access to trails or parks. (<15 minutes)

Nice to have:
Not too old
Somewhat immigrant friendly

Budget: 800K to 1Million. Can do a bit more if absolutely necessary.

Job wise, we work remotely but still don't want to live too far out in nowhere land. We generally prefer the north/northwest side of Austin.

Are there any particular home communities that you can recommend in that price range?

We are open to new homes as well.

Check out River Place (zip 78730) and Steiner Ranch (zip 78732).

In and around Balcones Country Club, northwest Austin, fits your criteria.

you should probably start with schools as that will be the limiting factor.

Westwood and their feeders are probably the best, but they are a grinder
Vandegrift is next

after that is anderson high school, leander and probably others that I havent kept up with.

The close in neighborhoods in your price range

avery ranch
the "mountain" (area north of old lampasas trail
great hills
jester
riverplace
northwest hills

There are lots of other neighborhoods adjoining those that are similar but that will get you roughly in the area.

All great suggestions. Thanks everyone.

Any opinions of Vizcaya and Terravista Round Rock? How are the schools there?

those dont really meet your criteria of north/northwest austin.
The average SAT for stony point is 1004, so I would say stony point has much worse students on average than the schools I mentioned above. East View is 1130 so is roughly equivalent to some of the schools below.

Here are the schools from areas that somewhat match your request:

Westwood 1274 (1350 for the IB program)
Vandegrift 1258
Anderson 1227
Leander High School 1122
McNeil 1110
Round rock high school 1169
Cedar Park 1184

vizcaya
Round Rock ISD Schools:

Teravista Elementary School 512-704-0500 4419 Teravista Club Dr.

Hopewell Middle School 512-464-5200 1535 Gulfway

Stony Point High School 512-428-7000 1801 Bowman Rd.

Georgetown ISD Schools:

Williams Elementary 512-943-5160 Rockridge Lane

Wagner Middle School 512-943-1830 1621 Rockridge Lane

East View High School 512-943-1800 East University Ave.

Thanks @Austin97 for the detailed info.

I just limit my search to those schools then.

Georgetown has Gateway College Preparatory School K12 Charter, SAT 1160
Round Rock has Meridian School K12 Charter, SAT 1240

Those are close to Teravista and Viscaya.

The new lots in Vizcaya are right next to a future fire station. With bids and premiums those house are priced over 1 million which is pretty high for the area. Any one has any experience living right next to a fire station?
