My son lives in an apartment complex in Austin. They had frozen pipes (never lost power though, thank goodness). Whatever the damage or hassle or whatever, they were told they would be fixed by today, so we'll see. When I spoke with him last night, he and his girlfriend were doing fine. That being said, of course no one is able to work and I think he's living off PTO. Shame to have to use it this way but hey, it's not like anyone is going on vacation anytime soon anyway.

In reading your Allstate link, the highlighted part says "damage caused by leaking plumbing" and lists the frozen pipe. Maybe I missed it, but does it state fixing the pipe?

You probably should just ask your agent.

My agent added a water intrusion addendem to my policy that covers me for ANY water damage regardless of source.

Saved me $25,000 two years ago when we had wind blown water seep through our front door and ruin our hardwoods. We replaced the entire lower level of our home.

The cost for the addendum was, I think, $25 a year. He didn't even tell me he did it.

When I called him to thank him, he said he automatically adds it to any higher end home.

He's a good agent!

That is a good agent.

I was just giving the general answer as what your agent did may not be commonplace with most. Although it does sound like most policies will indeed fix the water damage in this situation, just not the pipe (as stated on the links I provided). I assume the addendum covers the pipe also?

I was just answering Camaro's question in post #213 which was specific to this incident.

Trust me, I wasn't complaining. We've been very fortunate compared to most.

Everyone be extra careful today. While the snow was able to be driven on before that sleet/snow/ice mix from last night and this morning has made everything a solid sheet of ice and it's crazy. Driving and even walking is very dangerous as there is no traction that had been present with the fluffy snow.

Please be careful and stay warm if you can.

Yeah I’m not driving anywhere today. Even if I managed to get to work they’re on rolling blackouts anyway and I’m pretty sure that’s been nothing but hell on our servers.

My neighbor is from Cleveland Ohio and he got up at 8am and drove off like this was just an ordinary day, meanwhile I’m asking another neighbor to borrow a shovel so I can prepare for this weekend lol.

Does anyone have a flame thrower like in the movie "Once upon a time in Hollywood"?

Just trying to keep things light.
