We just moved here recently, are looking for activities for our kids, 12-year old boy and 11 year old girl.

The obvious that comes to mind is Scouts, but seems there's a waiting list, at least in our area--Round Rock. Ideas for other types of activities? We also are active in our neighborhood church, have them enrollled in Vacation Bible School, but need more stuff for them to do, for the summer and next school year. Any ideas?

There are a million options and it depends on what your kids are interested in. My kids have done sports, dance, gymnastics, art, martial arts, chess club, swim team, etc. (Dad usually takes care of the outdoor stuff, taking them camping and kayaking and teaching them to swim.)

Activities at community centers or through ISD's usually cost less than if done privately.

Thanks for the links--lots of good stuff! I'm especially interested in indoor activities, since it does get hot here in the summer! Also looking for anything that will keep them academically engaged, found a lot of good suggestions.

Here's what I have so far--Vacation Bible School, Swim lessons at the YMCA, Summer Read Program at library, passes to Bob Bullock Museum, got an invite to Awana group, perhaps ice skating at Chapperral (sp?) depends on cost and timing, any other suggestions appreciated!

check out Chaparral Ice

They have lessons year round and special programs in the summer! A great way to beat the heat.
